A few newsletters ago I mentioned I was struggling with creating a resource — something I wanted to share with newsletter subscribers as a way 'into my world.' And hopefully, in future, something that could help grow my newsletter audience as a bit of a 'lead magnet.'
The way I’m speaking about it should give you no trouble imagining why it was so difficult for me. I hate thinking in terms of growing audiences and lead magnets.
I knew what I wanted to do, and I knew it was sensible. But it took a lot of 'mind trickery' and sidling past my brain to get in to the right state of mind where I could create something that wouldn’t feel like a 'lead magnet' (🤢)
I should explain here that I have nothing against the concept of a lead magnet1. I have absolutely used the term before and I would recommend it as a strategy.
However, there’s still the issue that you need to be in the right frame of mind to create it.
And, 'this is a lead magnet' is not a good place for my brain to create from!Â
Anyway, this is a very long-winded way of telling you… I HAVE OVERCOME MY RESISTANCE.
I actually overcame it a good few weeks ago. (And then again, many times, during the extremely light editing process.)
So, here it is.
My 'lead magnet.' Which is actually a PDF booklet about how to start your creative project — and keep going — even when you don’t really know what it is yet.
I made it for a specific client, and anyone who occasionally feels lost in the creative process.
It will not tell you how to finish. It will not tell you how to structure your time. My hope is that it will show you, you do have answers inside you.
Keep it in your digital/metaphorical back pocket for when you’re having a wobble and feel like you have no idea what you’re doing.
And then tell me what you think!
I’ve already shared it with a couple of friends — and obviously they are hugely biased, but they were very nice about it and said nice things like "It’s fantastic, it really hits you in the dark cockles of the creative heart."
So, go read it. It’s free, and it’s a pretty quick read.
Much love and creativity,
Kathryn
A lead magnet is a free asset (e.g. digital download) or special offer (e.g. a discount) that you offer people in exchange for their contact details (usually, their email address).
