You may have questions. I can’t anticipate all of them, or indeed address them all in one newsletter; but I can certainly speak to someone who might be considering working together but isn’t sure if it’s the right decision — or perhaps isn’t even sure what they want or need in terms of support (totally valid!). If you are such a person, this is for you.
I work with and help a range of clients. I help people who have businesses and I help people who don’t. I help people who are sensitive, creative, quite often neurodivergent, and people who sense they want to create more.
I don’t have any one specific way of working with people. I am very much a ‘meet people where they are’ kind of person. I will often see your potential. (I can’t help it.) But, I don’t push it. I don’t tell you that you should be doing this (!!) fancy thing and reaching for the stars (!!), when you feel like you’ve got enough on your plate right now and sometimes it feels like you’re just trying to survive.
In short, I support people by meeting them where they’re at and helping them see who they are and where they want to go. I know that might sound a little vague and wishy-washy. But what I find is that it’s often a big relief to my clients. It gives them space. Space to think, space to reflect. Space to be.
We make such better decisions when we have this space. And it’s often hard to give it to ourselves.
Our society tells us we don’t have time for that. We have too many demands on our time and attention.
We tell ourselves we will prioritise this space for us …later.
If you feel the truth of that, you know this space is valuable. But you don’t always know how to create it for yourself. You may feel selfish or unworthy of ‘taking it’. You may simply not know how. You may not be in the ‘practice’ of it.
And, I should say, there are many ways to get to, and create, this space. Many of us know there is a place where we feel more safe and settled; where we feel more rooted in and connected to ourselves. We know what it feels like. But we don’t always know how to bring it to our lives in the every-day.
That’s not easy – our lives have a lot of distractions! But the more we practise, the more awareness we bring (and allow ourselves), the easier it can become.
So on one hand I find it hard to describe what I do. And on the other hand, one of the major things I do for my clients is help them find space. I help them create space. Space to feel heard, within themselves. Space and time to trust themselves.
When I’m coaching with someone, the way you know you’re making progress is not by how many modules or lessons you complete. It’s how you feel inside.
That’s the honest I-can’t-make-it-more-fancy-than-that truth. I wish I could make it sound more impressive. But I can’t; I could never do it any justice with words anyhow.
Sometimes new clients come to me saying they’re not exactly sure what they want or what they need. They may even be apologetic about this. My thoughts are, ‘that’s absolutely fine!’ If you were 100% clear about what you wanted and had it all figured out, we probably wouldn’t need to be working together.
But I know that in the course of working together, you will become much clearer about what you want and what you need. And what’s more, you’ll take steps to get it. They might be imperfect, sometimes stumbling steps. But you will have someone guiding you gently — not telling you what to do or even exactly how to do it. But someone who helps you see yourself more clearly; so you can give yourself the nourishment and connection you desire.
This sense of nourishment and connection helps my clients do all sorts of things. It helps them navigate periods of difficulty; big life changes; small life changes; changes in their business; growth and grief. It helps them create transformation in a way that takes their values and themselves as human beings into account.
It gives them a structure and way of being that is theirs alone. I am not interested in giving you a framework that everyone must follow. I would hate that; I’m sure most of my clients would too (even if some people might ask for one). But what I do know is that you have a set of tools already within you. A set of insights, understandings, abilities and ways of seeing things, that all combine to make something special. It is our job together to ignite and breathe life into those qualities of you. And there is plenty of opportunity to practise too.
You absolutely have tools and abilities. But we’re not always able to see them. Not when our minds are clouded by so many other things! That’s where a coach helps. Someone who isn’t in your head all the time and doesn’t have the same worries about you that you do; someone who is able to bring you back to your qualities and remind you of them — but with slightly different eyes.
The result is you get to see yourself anew. You get to feel and hold yourself in a different light. This happens in an individual session and it happens over the time we work together. By the end of our time working together, we are different. You for having changed how you see and feel about yourself; me for having gotten to work with you.
Many of my clients describe it as changing how they see themselves, and yet remaining at the core the person they always have been. They do not banish parts of themselves; if anything, these parts live and work together in greater harmony.
What that will do you for is unique and a mystery that unfolds along with you. That’s the beauty of it: you get to live and create your own mystery. You get to be the creating force in your life.
